Meanwhile the leader of the
Governors’ forum Peer Review Team has been speaking about his
perception of the government of Ogun State. The Director General
of the Forum Dr. Asikihanu Okaunu says Ogun State has
unparalleled record of hospitality and visionary leadership. Dr.
Asikihanu Okaanru’s Preliminary findings in the first 24 hours.
Dr. Okauru scores Ogun State Government high in Internally
Generated Revenue and clears-air on the areas which the group
will be focus. Ten of the thirty six States Governors’ including
Otunba Gbenga Daniel will be leaving Office after completion of
two terms and the team is also interested in the life of the
various projects after their exit. The Team comprises seasoned
administrators and those who have made a lot of mark in the
academics as well as top journalists.
PEER REVIEW TOUR DAY 2
The visiting Peer Review Delegates of the Governor’s Forum on
Tour of Ogun State was taken on a kind trip on the second day of
their visit as Ministries, Parastatals and other Government
Agencies lectured on the State of things in the State before
2003 and evident improvement in all sectors of the economy,
on-going efforts since the coming on board of the present
Government in the Gateway State. The second day of the peer
review tour of Ogun State by Nigeria Governors Forum Team was a
serious business as Ministries, Government Agencies and
Parastatals appeared before the delegates for the presentation
of the technical aspect of the visit.
One after the other, Ministries and other Agencies presented
papers with general overview of their work, what they have
achieved, plans for the future and what the administration wants
to be remembered for in terms of legacy projects that will
outlive the present Government with positive effects on the
people. The Investment Company of Ogun State Government Gateway
Holdings Limited established in 2004 set the ball rolling.
Professor Segun Awonusi of the Education, Science and Technology
Ministry told the visiting delegates what the sector was like
before the present Government and efforts made so far to revive
the Sector with impressive results going by the number of
laurels won by different Schools and teachers in the State. For
the Ministry of Health, Dr. Isiaq Kunle Salako informed the
Forum that the focus of the Government is to increase access to
qualitative Healthcare facilities especially in rural
communities.
Sports, Tourism, Women Affairs and Social Welfare, TRACE, OGEGEP,
Bureau of Lands and Survey, OGROMA, OGSEP, Housing and not
leaving out others also took turn to present papers. It was a
big round of applause for the Ministry of Water Resources and
Rural Development after the presentation of the Commissioner,
Akogun Kola Onadipe intimating the delegates on various tasking
efforts made by the Government to make water available for the
people, challenges of irregular water supply that made
Government procured Generating Sets, International Training for
Personnel knowing that the Ministry is a Service Oriented one
that must not toy wit the needs of the people. It was a long day
exercise, but a lively one going by the cordial atmosphere which
existed between the visiting delegates and officials of Ogun
State Government with banters from different quarters adding
live to the deliberation.. |
