A total sum of N100.02 Billion has
been earmarked by the Ogun State Government for the 2009 Fiscal year
with the largest chunk of twenty-six percent going to the economic
affairs. Governor Gbenga Daniel who gave the figure while presenting
the Budget Proposal Bill to the State House of Assembly, said with
the global economic downturn articulated economic policies, sound
fiscal management among others are needed to achieve improved
welfare for the citizenry.
The 2009 Appropriation Bill as presented by Governor Gbenga Daniel
to the Ogun State Lawmakers takes cognizance of the on-going global
financial crisis and ways of cushioning its effects on the economy
of the State. Highlighting features of the 2009 Budget Proposal,
Governor Daniel said in pursuance of the State Government’s policy
of Integration of Global / Regional Development Agenda into
development programmes of the State, the Millennium Development
Goals (MDG’s) and the principles of the New Partnership for Africa
Development (NEPAD) have already been incorporated into the State
Development Process.
The Ogun State Governor also hinted that construction works on the
Gateway International Airport comprising runway, terminal building
and control tower would be flagged off, ground breaking and
construction of the Free Trade Zones and Deep Sea Port would
commence with the adoption of Public Private Partnership. Earlier in
his address of welcome, the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly;
Hon. Tunji Egbetokun appreciated Governor Daniel for prompt
implementation of resolutions and Laws Passed by the House of
Assembly. The Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker pledged
unflinching support for he Executive Arm of Government to attain
greater height for the State in terms of development and speedy
passage of the 2009 Appropriation Bill into Law.
